Well....we weren't successful in getting 20 lessons this week. We were super confident that we would have reached it but we ended up at 15. haha I love how it gets brought up so much the whole 20 lessons thing but it means so much for our mission right now. It really helps us to exert all our energies and resources. We did beat our record since being here though which was 12. Considering the fact that we also had a Zone Conference and baptismal interview in Bergamo it was a pretty good week. There were so many lessons that got cancelled or people who gave us bidone's. Oh well...We are on track this week to hit twenty.
The only activity on our list that would take away from our weekly schedule is transfers at Milano Centrale.! Do you realize how many times I have been to Milano for Trasfers? haha. Let's just say every transfer except for once in Modena and Pisa and when I switched sides in Torino. haha. I just go out of habit now. Don't worry I'm not mad, annoyed or anything but I think it's a bit funny.
Anyways, Anz. Smith will be leaving me already to go and be Branch President in the Sienna Branch. It has had a member as the branch president for the last year or two but I guess Anz. Smith will now be it! He didn't even get to unpack his bags. Well actually he did but I was hoping to be able to really grow our relationship and teaching unity. He is a super great missionary, too, so for that I'm a bit sad.
I am going to be companion with Anziano Parker! This last transfer he was one of the traveling assistants of the mission. He did about 5 transfers as a ZL already and has about two transfers left. I am pretty excited for some experience to be coming my way because I need it. I need it and our work needs it just about now. We will also be getting one of the mission cars! ROME HERE WE COME. Just messing, but we will be getting a car to go to all the district meetings and scambios we will be having. It will really save us a lot of time and money, I think, in the long run. We will be able to focus more and have more time in our own city to find the elect.
The zone is going to be changing a lot. We have quite a few people leaving but it seems as if we are getting a lot of really good missionaries. We have had about 6 baptisms this transfer so far and will have another 2 or 3 before it's over! About half the zone is getting 20 lessons which is our biggest goal right now as a mission. Lately we've also been emphasizing prayer. We have been told that we should do "family prayer" every morning at 9:55 am and it's been really cool actually (every companionship in the mission prays at 9:55).
I have really seen my own personal prayers develop over the last week. I've been trying to have them be a lot more effective and it's been working. It really does just require effort. A diligent prayer definitely takes some dedication but we can, like you said Dad, have a prayer in our heart. Any prayer is better than no prayer. I think it will really give a boost to my faith which has lacked a bit these last two transfers and help me feel closer to our Savior.
There isn't much news about the teaching pool. We are still finding and sifting out those that want to learn about the gospel. We are working our butts off, but I know we will be blessed. We had a really awesome appointment with a less-active family last Saturday! We found their names in our area book, we couldn't find them on the ward list. They are from Napoli, and like most Napolitanos they are super nice. Apparently from various life problems they've distanced themselves from the church. At the end of the lesson though, Antonieta told us that she would like to start coming back to church. She said she wants to start having family nights and she wants to stop smoking! She's been smoking for 40 years but she wants to stop. We came out just stunned regarding her desires.
It was simply amazing that we got all that from just passing by. When we asked how long it'd been since someone from the church had passed by she said it'd been years. It was a great experience and we are excited to see them more often, hopefully in church.
I am not sure how Davide (from Pisa) is doing but hopefully at transfers I will find out more. I'm sending a letter to Chen this week so hopefully he will write back and tell me how he's doing. Everything is going great! I'm excited for these miracles to start happening....keep praying for us.
Thanks for all the pictures. I can't wait to see Legend when I get back! And George looks like a stud. Everyone is growing up it's crazy.
I STILL NEED FRANCO'S ADDRESS!!!!!
WHAT DAY IS MOTHER'S DAY?...I know it's like 3 weeks away but which day specifically....?....I'm going to send home a few presents for the family hopefully next week. It will be more of a PARENT'S DAY and not just mothers day. I will include Father's Day too...ecco perchè ho detto il giorno dei genitori.
LOVE YOU ALL A LOT...enjoy the pictures.....(I'm getting chubs huh?. It's ok because Anz. Parker wants to work out a lot).

We Feel Like We Are Loving Them and Not Just "Teaching" A Lesson
Buona Pasqua. (Translation: Happy Easter! Easter was pretty good. We went to the Sgatone family's house to eat immediatley after church. They are from Columbia and are really great. Theirs is a family of five, two boys and a girl who is really cute. It was a fun time, but we finished the week with only eleven lessons)
We have seriously been working our butts of this past transfer. Right now we are midway through the 6th week of the transfer. Seeing how this is a 7 week transfer, we still have this week and next week to reach it. Next week if transfers happen then it's gonna be super tough, BUT we haven't got a clue what will happen. We will probably remain the same. Back to the 20 lesson thing. This last week about half our zone reached the goal which was super awesome! Guess who was bringing up the rear? We did. We had the least out of all the others.
Last Friday we decided to take things a lot more serious during our weekly planning session. You were talking Dad about the planning things spiritually first and last week we did. It's not that when we've planned that we did a crappy job, but we didn't do all we could do. We decided to not deviate from the Preach My Gospel planning steps. We read each step and did exactly what we were supposed to. They talked a lot during our last Consiglio (Council) with President Wolfgramm and the other Zone Leaders about not deviating from PMG. They related it to trying to fly a plane onto an aircraft carrier. If the slightest deviations are made the plane can't land or it'll crash.
We put it to the test and even though we took about 3 1/2 hours to plan we felt super good. We felt as if the week was planned and we'd already achieved the 20 lessons. So far the week is going so so. We are only at 5 lessons but we are getting there. We have many appointments set up for this weekend. We have been doing a super good job lately about contacting everyone and talking to everyone in our paths. In the last 6 weeks or so we have found about 20 investigators. We are working our butts off-- its ridiculous. We are now trying to figure out what we can do better to keep these people interested and wanting to know more. With most of these people they listen to one lesson then fall off the face of the earth. We feel like we are loving them and not just "teaching" a lesson, but they always seem to stop answering the phone after like one lesson.
As of now we really don't have any GOOD investigators or people yearning to learn more. There are a few with some really great potential but we got to reel them into the Gospel. Once again I've really found a big hole in my missionary work. My prayers have been super half-hearted. I don't think I've been praying enough and when I have been praying they've been super lame. I've really made strides to be better lately and so yesterday during conference it was great to hear President talk about the importance of prayer. He encouraged us to really evaluate them and be diligent in doing it. I think as I really pray for these people that we find and their welfare miracles will start happening. I think it's been taking a toll on my spirit level as well. I'm really excited for the opportunity I will have in the next six months to learn how to truly pray and feel close to Heavenly Father.
It was awesome to see how the other coppia, Anziano Webb and Money set some baptismal dates this week. For the last transfer or so they've had about 5 progressing Italian investigators that are just awesome. This week they set two dates, one of them being Enrico! Enrico is the Italian that Anziano Jensen(AP) and I found during our scambio last transfer. He came to church this past week in the other ward in Verona and when he came he asked the other missionaries if he could come and say hi to me. It was super awesome that he remembered me and actually wanted to come and say hello. From what the other anziani are saying, he knows that the BoM is true and everything and just loves the lessons. Cool huh?
I got my Italian leather bound triple last week at Consiglio! It had been in Firenze getting the leather put on it and then Anz. Glowa brought it to Consiglio. I guess when Glowa was in Pisa doing a scambio he met Chen. Chen gave Glowa some cool stuff to give me. I got this cool little Chinese charm thing and then a red envelope. I realized about 3 days later that the envelope had 100 yen in it. Haha I love Chen; he's hands down one of the most awesome people I have ever met. I have to meet up with him after the mission.
Oh yeah. So I found out about 4 weeks ago that one of the sisters in our zone went to Olympus. When we went to their district meeting at the beginning of the transfer I asked Sorella Jacobsen where she was from. She responded, " Salt Lake City", then when I asked what high school she went to she said Olympus. It threw me off completely so I asked her when she graduated and I guess she graduated with Andy. I can't remember her first name but I also found out that she is in Brian and Ange's ward! We got 3 Oly grads in our zone cool huh?
Well thanks for the Cards update....it's been forever....are the Jazz still doing pretty good?
Anyways I will close up the email but before I do.......I need Franco's address because I lost it.....oops. I asked for it a few weeks ago but I didn't get it.
The mission is know encouraging us to not have parents send us packages. The customs prices are terribly high and it comes out of our pockets. I guess a few people have gotten packages worth 10-15 euro but with custom expenses of 100-150 euro. I'm pretty close to the end anyway so I don't think I will be needing anything.
VI voglio tantissimo bene!!!!! ( I love you a ton!!!)

I'm Beyond Blessed To Be Able To Share The Gosepl Daily
Well after all the success from the beginning of last week I think the Lord is trying us again. We had about three straight days of miracles and awesome blessings. At some point in the week, I think it was Friday, we hit another road block. Two of our "progressing" investigators just slipped off the face of the earth. We'd really been planning to see them two more times in the week but it never happened. The wife of Emilio had to go to the hospital and since then we haven't heard from him. This other really in gamba (on the ball) African cancelled on us and hasn't answered since. We felt like after rebuilding our faith it all crumbled again haha. We picked ourselves up pretty well though, and made it into Conference ready to learn and feel the Spirit.
I have to say that the mission has changed my entire perspective of general conference. I yearn to learn more and crave to hear more. In almost every single talk there are things to be learned. You'd be amazed to see how much the Apostles quote Preach My Gospel. I think as missionaries we've read it so much that it just sticks in our brains. I remember a few times some of the Apostles directly quoting phrases from it. It is modern day scripture created just for us. President Packer said awhile back that it was designed behind the veil but put together in this life.
I think the main talks that i really loved were those of Hallstrom, both of Uchtdorf's, Dallin H. Oaks, D. Todd Christoferson, and the story of the missionary putting his arm around his companion after having the door slammed in their faces. For me that really stuck out to me how much more I need to love my companions. It helped me realize how much more I need to love this work and the people I am serving. I haven't had much time to review the talks because we've been having to send in weekly numbers, do exchanges with the assistants and plan trainings. This next week though I'm going to really look over them all though and see what I can start doing better.
So have there been any new cousins born into the family that I don't know about? Anything cool happening with other cousins? Anything? I really don't get much updates from any family members except from the grandparents. It doesn't help when I don't write all the aunt and uncles but lets be real.....that would take FOREVER. There are too many and I wouldn't want to make certain ones feel bad for writing one and not the other.
Honestly not a whole lot has really happened this week for us. It's been quiet but full of hard work. We are really trying to get those 20 lessons a week. We have a few districts that have really caught the vision yet others who are really struggling. We've come to figure out that it all starts with planning. If we all just took quality time to plan out our weeks and not go through the motions during planning sessions things would get done. I think one of the things I'm starting to realize as well is that my prayers are really sucking big time. I've been really lacking in that area so I'm gonna try really hard to make it a habit to pray diligently. I think it will help me but also those in the zone as I try and help them out.
This has been short email and I apologize but we have just had ZERO time today. It's tough trying to clean an apartment by yourself (it's been trashed by scambios)....I thought all 20 year old guys like to clean but I guess I was wrong.
Well I really love you all! I will say that the biggest thing that stuck out to me in General Conference was the Gospel. They talked on and on about the Gospel. I really loved the talk about being active in the Gospel and not just active in the church. It changes us daily as we really strive to follow it. One speaker mentioned that we should allow the sacrament to change us weekly. The Gospel is true and I'm beyond blessed to be able to share it with people daily. WE must all strive to be active in the Gospel.

"Really, A Living Prophet ... Who Knew?"
What a turn-around we've had this week! I feel like the burden on my shoulders to have an ounce of success has been removed completely. I can definitely say that last week was one of the most stressing and frustrating weeks of the mission. It seemed as though after every invite or every person I met I was frustrated and a bit riled up. It seemed that everyone we talked to wouldn't listen or when they did talk they were completely against everything we would say.
We fasted together last Friday and it really helped me to bring things back into perspective and see the little miracles and little bits of success we'd been given from the Lord. The fast really helped me to see the small things the Lord was doing for us. We fasted again on Sunday because next week is Conference and I feel like the Lord answered all our prayers and sacrifices. We started meeting lots of people and seeing more success in our companionship. It took a lot more personal prayer and focus on my part to change my mindset and attitude but I still have some more work to do.
We've recently been sent a list of the new converts in the last 3 years by the mission. They want us to contact all of these converts and in the process try knocking a few doors in the converts area and see what miracles could happen. Well we go to find this new convert and we show up at their house at palazzo #15. Well when we got their there were was 15 A and 15 B. We went first to 15B and started looking for their name on the board with all the doorbells(campanello). As we were searching for their name there was a kid on the first floor balcony just looking at us. We greeted him and started introducing ourselves.
At the time we thought that he might be the new converts we were searching for. We quickly realized it wasn't them when he said he was Muslim. We began talking a bit about how our message blesses families and he went inside to ask his father if we could enter. His father soon came out and agreed to let us come in. Well we went in and discovered they are from Somalia(apparently one of the most dangerous countries in the world). In the little English they knew we found out that Ammot and Saijo were brothers. Ammot had lost two daughters in the violence still occuring his country and his wife is still there. We bore powerful testimony of the Plan of Salvation taught to us in the Book of Mormon and they were touched. Afterward you could see the interest and desire they had to read it. Unfortunately they don't read well in English and we don't have a copy in their language...yet. We are hoping to get one soon and return to teach them more!
We still haven't been able to recontact Michael but we are teaching this referral Emilio who is from Romania. He came to church on Sunday and really loved it. He even got to talk with Daniella, a new convert in the other ward, about everything. She, like Emilio, is facing some difficult time but she bore strong testimony of the blessings from the Book of Mormon and of the church. We actually met with him yesterday with Daniella and it went really well. He and his family are super poor and looking for work but he still manages to have faith. He has a big desire to know the truth and follow Christ. We are really praying that his conditions will get better because they might be kicked out of their home soon.
It seems though that the Lord is really just blessing us left and right. Our Zone has really started grasping the 20 Lessons goal and we are seeing lots of blessings. People who have been studying for awhile are deciding to get baptized and even some children of recent new converts are choosing to get baptized too! It's been fun this last week seeing such a great turn-around.
So the girls are gonna be working at McDonald's? That should be pretty fun for them, even funner for Daniel haha. So how much are they going to be making? I can see that being a great experience for both of them. I'll need to figure out something when I get back real quick.....Car Wash? Interestingly enough, I really loved that job....who doesn't like cleaning? I can pridefully say that I was probably the best car cleaner there....nough said
We are super excited for Conference this week and it's been fun telling people we meet about it as well. People start asking questions "Davvero, un profeta vivente?"(Really, a living prophet?)...e chi sarebbe? (Who knew?) etc.. I really need to go into this conference with some good questions to be answered. Like I learned last year from Elder Kopischke, we should go into every church meeting(any meeting) with a question to be answered. I haven't been super great at it but conference is a must so I'm excited.
Unfortunately I haven't gone yet to see Franco but we have been thinking about it all week. I also think I lost his address so if I could get it resent to me that'd be GREAT!
Well let's hope this string of success continues! Maybe I already jinxed it, chissà?
Love you guys a bunch.
My companion has some cool names for most of the prophets and apostles....get this....Henry B. Crying
